The History of the World in 2 Hours Reflection/ The Story of Us (Primer)

It was so hard to comprehend that before the big bang there was nothing. Mankind has been asking the question of “Why did our universe suddenly erupt in a mass expansion?” over and over again. This expansion of energy created all the energy that will ever exist, power the stars, fuel anything that ever lives, any energy you will consume, and dates back to the beginning of time.

It’s amazing how gravity, the great sculptor of the universe, formed our first galaxies. When the temperature reaches 18 million degrees, Fahrenheit hydrogen atoms slam together creating a new element, helium and radiating bursts of energy. This process created the stars in the vast expanse.

The more complicated elements were created in the stars. These “element factories” produced more and more elements. To learn that the universe created the elements we use today on a daily basis like nitrogen, oxygen, and iron is just astonishing.

To learn that without supernovas we wouldn’t be here today. I love the quote “We are all stardust” because it is true, what we are, dates back to the beginning of time.

Our sun was born and takes up 99.9% of all the dust and gas of the solar system. That .1% is just enough for gravity to form our planets and in turn our earth with a day lasting only 6 HOURS I couldn’t believe it!

If you showed me primordial earth, I would say that it was a completely different planet since the primordial earth is just a barren wasteland of molten lava. Lighter material floats to the surface and forms the crust. Heavier material sinks forming an iron-nickel core which in turn creates our magnetic field which shields our earth. I like to think of it like a gigantic force field surrounding the earth.

An object the size of Mars smashes into our earth and with some molten debris being thrown into space. Within a year gravity gathered this material and created our moon. Without the moon, we wouldn’t be here right now because it gave us a tilted planet with seasons.

As our planet cools, rain starts pouring down forming puddles to rivers to eventually our oceans. Within our primeval oceans, six simple elements combine and form the key substances to create life, the most spectacular being DNA.

Life then formed, with the earliest organisms being bacteria which later create one of the most vital elements to life, Oxygen. As the earth advances through time, more and more complex life begin to develop and evolve. Our planet begins to look more and more like the Earth we know today.

Overall I am just flabbergasted by everything that happened to start at the beginning of time. It’s crazy how each event of the timeline happened exactly at the right time it needed to, to form our universe, our stars, our galaxies, our earth, and us. I am a firm believer that God made the earth, but it is truly interesting to view our creation from the point of view of science.
